Chronology of the Death of a Udayana University Student: Falling from the Fourth Floor to Bullying Issues

Kapanlagi.com - A deep atmosphere of mourning enveloped Udayana University (Unud) after a sociology student with the initials TAS (22) was found lying in front of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences (FISIP) building on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The student from Cimahi, West Java, was rushed to RSUP Prof Ngoerah Denpasar, but unfortunately, his life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead at 1:03 PM WITA.

According to witness accounts, TAS was said to have fallen from the 4th floor of the campus. Before and after the incident, several other facts emerged that highlighted TAS's departure.

1. Chronology from the Police

The Head of the Public Relations Sub-Division of the Denpasar Police, Kompol I Ketut Sukadi, revealed a heartbreaking tragedy that occurred around 09:00 WITA in front of the FISIP building of a university in Denpasar. A student from Udayana University, TAS, fell from the fourth floor, and despite being rushed to RSUP Prof. Ngoerah, his life could not be saved.

According to witnesses, TAS appeared panicked when he exited the elevator and sat down for a moment before disappearing from view. The shoes he left on the long bench became the last clue before a loud noise echoed from the campus yard.

An evacuation team consisting of students and security personnel immediately took him to the hospital, where doctors found severe injuries, including broken bones and internal bleeding. Although TAS was still conscious upon arrival, his condition continued to deteriorate until he was declared dead.

The police are investigating the cause of the fall, but the family has accepted his passing and stated they will not take legal action, although the victim's mother revealed that there had been a noticeable change in her son's behavior in recent months.

2. Impact After the Incident

Several days after this tragic incident, screenshots of a group conversation among Unud students containing inappropriate comments and showing a lack of empathy towards the victims circulated widely on social media. This action triggered a strong reaction from the faculty.

The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Planning, as well as the Acting Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Information at FISIP Unud, I Made Anom Wiranata, revealed that the faculty has imposed academic sanctions on the involved students.

"I have informed the program head and will write a letter for them to receive a reduction in soft skill grades for one semester," Anom stated on Thursday, October 16, 2025. This sanction not only involves a grade reduction but also the obligation to create a statement letter and a video clarification of their apology.

"We have authentic evidence in the form of screenshots. This is a step to rectify the situation," he added.

Anom emphasized that this sanction aims to educate students to better understand communication ethics in public spaces. "We do not want to spread hatred, but to educate them," he asserted.

3. Has a History of Mental Health

On this occasion, Anom also explained that the late TAS had a history of mental health issues that began in middle school and had received psychological treatment.

"According to his mother, TAS experienced mental health problems since middle school and had undergone therapy. However, he refused to continue the therapy because he did not know the cause," he explained.

The Public Relations of Udayana University, Dewi Pascarani, stated that they had held a coordination meeting with the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, DPM, the Student Association of the Study Program, and students involved in the conversation. Dewi emphasized that the content of the conversation that circulated occurred after the victim's death, not before the incident.

"Therefore, the lack of empathy expressed on social media has nothing to do with the late's decisions," she revealed on Friday, October 17, 2025.

4. Further Investigation Will Be Conducted

The results of this meeting will be forwarded to the Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK) at Udayana University for further investigation in accordance with applicable laws. Udayana University strongly condemns any form of speech, comments, or actions that are not empathetic, both in the real world and digital.

"Such actions are contrary to the values of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and academic ethics," emphasized Dewi.

The Rector of Udayana University, I Ketut Sudarsana, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of TAS. He also emphasized that the campus must be a safe space, free from all forms of violence. "The university will take strict action against any violations that undermine the values of humanity and academic dignity," he stated.
