Controversial Same-Sex Couple in Thailand Who Were Criticized and Threatened to be Killed by Indonesian Netizens

Initially, the couple remained silent and reluctant to respond despite being terrorized with insults for several consecutive days. But in the end, they started running out of patience, because it turned out that some threats also began to come to their closest people.

"All this time I stayed silent when Indonesian people insulted you non-stop for 3 days and 3 nights. I never retaliated because I thought they would get tired on their own. But it turns out they became even more cruel in the comment section, to the point of threatening and scaring us. But I also realize that there are many good people trying to protect us, like our parents, aunt, siblings, and friends," Smile and Bas wrote in the caption of their latest post in English.

"The fact is.. Every person I mentioned above is being threatened. EVERYONE, even my girlfriend, my parents, my siblings, and the photographer! Those Indonesian people sent me videos of massacres to scare us. I wonder, why? We got married at home, in our own family, in our own country. So why those Indonesian people? Why does it have to be so dramatic? Why does this happen when there have been many LGBTQ couples who got married here before? Why does it have to be us?" they continued.

2. Reasons for Not Closing Comment Section

Smile and Bas then explained the reason why they didn't close the comment section to avoid conflict. They didn't feel like they did anything wrong, so there was no need to hide.

"Some of you might wonder why I don't close the comment section. My question is, why should I? Isn't this my space? Why do haters attack us? Why are you so mean to us? Should I hide when I haven't done anything wrong?" he further explained.

Some Indonesian netizens bring up religion when criticizing Smile and Bas. The newlywed couple also addressed this in their post.

"Honestly, I highly respect all religions. When I studied in Southern Thailand where most people are Muslims, I didn't have any problems or difficult times. Even Muslim families always supported me as I am. Religion never teaches you to hate others or look down on others. On the contrary, religion fills the hearts of humans to become good human beings," he explained.
