Facts about Kawasaki, a Disease Previously Suffered by Selvi Kitty's Child

Kapanlagi.com - Some time ago, the son of the beautiful singer Selvi Kitty was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease. Some parties mistakenly reported about this disease. Therefore, on Monday (3/2), Selvi uploaded some information about this disease on her Instagram.

According to Selvi's post, this disease is a disease that attacks blood vessels. Kawasaki causes inflammation in arteries, veins, and capillaries. Furthermore, as reported by Liputan6.com, according to Dr. Agus Harianto SpA (K), a pediatric specialist at RSUD dr Soetomo Surabaya, Kawasaki disease is still quite difficult to detect its cause.

1. There are a Number of Symptoms

In general, this disease affects children aged 5 months. However, Kawasaki can also affect children above that age. Furthermore, some symptoms of this disease include:

1. High fever is the main symptom. Unstable body temperature occurs for at least about 5 days.

2. There are changes in the color of the child's eyes, becoming red.

3. Lips change color to blue while the tongue becomes red (strawberry tongue).

4. Red spots appear on the skin of the hands and feet. Swelling is also common.

5. Swelling also occurs in the lymph nodes in the child's neck.

It is important to note that these symptoms are similar to those of measles and dengue fever. If not immediately treated, these symptoms can pose a risk to the normal heartbeat pattern. This can result in abnormal heart valve function.

2. There is a Vaccine

According to Liputan6.com, the recovery from this disease takes at least 6 weeks depending on the condition of the child. The child must consume blood thinners to prevent heart attacks.

Meanwhile, the vaccine for this disease is called Immune Globulin Injection, specifically Gamunex. It costs around Rp9.5 million per 50 ml. The usage of the vaccine varies for each child depending on their weight. At least, 50 ml of the Kawasaki vaccine will be used up in about 4 hours.

3. First Case in Surabaya

Still according to Liputan6.com, in Indonesia, the first case of Kawasaki disease occurred in Surabaya. An 8-month-old baby experienced its symptoms. The baby underwent a series of tests, but all the results were normal.

The doctor strongly suspected that the baby had Kawasaki disease due to its high body temperature, red eyes, and dry, red mouth and lips. The baby immediately received intensive treatment.
