Great! BSI International Expo 2024 Achieves Outstanding Results, Exceeds Target for Visitors and Transactions

"So far, there has never been a sharia banking that has organized such a large expo," said Hery Gunardi, President Director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk., when closing the BSI International Expo 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on Sunday (23/6/2024) evening.

Yes, the event that lasted for 4 consecutive days, presenting the first international-scale sharia and halal lifestyle exhibition in Indonesia, was a great success. BSI International Expo 2024, created by BSI, achieved a number of visitors and transaction realizations that far exceeded the target.

Exceeding Expectations

Officially opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, K.H. Ma'ruf Amin, more than 52,000 visitors crowded the expo. This number far exceeded the initial target of 20,000 visitors. The transaction realizations that occurred throughout the event also far exceeded the initial target of Rp1 trillion. Until 15.00 WIB on the closing day, the BSI International Expo 2024 has successfully generated transaction value of more than Rp2.4 trillion, or more than double the initial target.

The BSI International Expo 2024 has also succeeded in connecting the halal ecosystem actors in Indonesia and the world. The business matching conducted during the expo has successfully brought together national micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with potential partners from abroad.

With this achievement, Hery expressed his pride that the BSI International Expo 2024 has run smoothly and successfully, thus achieving its goal as a halal expo. "This is the first event held by BSI in relation to its 3rd anniversary. And this is the first grand event for Islamic banking in Indonesia. Alhamdulillah, this event has exceeded expectations," said Hery.

Emphasizing the Commitment to Halal Ecosystem Development

In line with the spirit of "Connecting You to Halal Lifestyle Ecosystem" that it carries, BSI continues to emphasize its commitment to facilitate the development of the halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream, starting from financing, expo organization, to business matching.

For 4 days, the BSI International Expo 2024 has become an exhibition platform for 270 tenants from 21 categories. This expo event has also presented 47 seminars, talk shows, workshops, and studies related to the development of the halal ecosystem.

Equally important, a total of 63 business agreements with a value of US$17.62 million or around Rp288.93 billion have been generated from the series of business matching activities between local MSMEs and potential buyers from 20 countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, the UAE, and Lithuania.

"We chose this theme because we know that Indonesia has a huge potential in the Halal Value Chain, maybe more than Rp5,000 trillion. The only problem is that no one is connecting the dots. So today is a new history for Islamic banking in Indonesia, we are connecting these dots," added Hery.

Positive Testimonials from Exhibition Participants

Capli, one of the MSMEs supported by BSI that produces traditional Acehnese chili sauce, participated in the business matching and successfully secured a purchase order from a buyer in Malaysia for 29 tons.

Yuliana, the founder and Director of Capli, admitted that this purchase was far beyond her expectations.

"I was surprised, I didn't expect to get that many deals." If it weren't for participating in this BSI exhibition, I might not have been able to meet buyers and immediately get such a large contract from abroad," she said.

Yuliana also hopes that the BSI International Expo can be held in the following years so that more UMKM players like her can be assisted in expanding their businesses.

"This event aims to bridge the gap between the community and halal products as well as UMKM players to enter the global market," said BSI Sales and Distribution Director Anton Sukarna at the same occasion.

In the future, the BSI International Expo is targeted to become one of BSI's signature events. The company also hopes that the organization of this international halal expo will improve in the coming years, so that Indonesia's dream of realizing a sustainable sharia economy and becoming a global halal hub can be achieved.
