PT Greenfields Dairy Indonesia (Greenfields Indonesia) participated in the commemoration of World Milk Day 2023 on May 30, 2023 in Malang, East Java. The event aims to increase awareness of the important role of the dairy industry in improving the health and welfare of the Indonesian people.

World Milk Day, celebrated on June 1st every year, highlights the three important pillars of the dairy industry: improving the nutrition status of the people, ensuring environmental sustainability, and advancing the welfare of the community. However, Indonesia still faces challenges in achieving these three pillars.

1. Low Milk Consumption in Indonesia

One of the main challenges is the still low level of milk consumption in Indonesia, where per capita milk consumption is only around 16.27 kg per year. This figure shows Indonesia's lag behind neighboring countries. Milk production in Indonesia also still relies on imports for 80% of its needs. However, milk contains important animal protein to meet daily nutrition needs.

"As an important food commodity, milk not only has a positive impact on health, but also on other sectors such as social and economic with the existence of livestock and factories," said Dr. Ir. Epi Taufik, S.Pt, MVPH, M.Si, IPM, Head of Livestock Product Technology Division, Department of Animal Production and Technology, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, IPB University.

2. Greenfields #BeraniEXTRA

Through World Milk Day 2023, Greenfields Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to always being #BeraniEXTRA in providing the best nutrition for the community. Andre Rompis, CEO of Greenfields Indonesia, explained, "Greenfields Indonesia began as a livestock business founded by professionals in the agribusiness field in 1997, so we understand the importance of managing and maintaining the comfort of all our cows, which now number more than 19,000, of the Holstein and Jersey breeds. We run the 'Greenfields Farming Philosophy,' the best practice dairy farming management that guarantees the quality and quantity of our products from the farm, production process to reaching the consumers. The entire production process is supervised by trusted experts and professionals."

Greenfields Indonesia also preserves the environment by using solar panels as an additional energy source and implementing an open barn concept for better air circulation. Cow manure waste is also recycled into biogas electricity and fertilizer. In addition, for community empowerment, Greenfields has implemented the Greenfields Dairy Cow Partnership Program (KSG) which has provided economic benefits to more than 220 farmer partners.

3. Greenfields Offers Various Fresh Products

Greenfields Indonesia offers a variety of dairy products, including fresh milk, UHT, fresh yogurt, and fresh cheese. They also prioritize education through the #StartFresh campaign to encourage the community to consume fresh milk regularly.

"Fresh milk deserves to be the top choice because its natural nutritional content is better preserved, without the addition of artificial nutrition, making it of high quality and easily absorbed by the body. Don't forget to make sure that all dairy products we consume only contain and use fresh milk, okay!" said Mona Ratuliu who encourages the community to be more selective in choosing milk.

4. Collaboration with the Government

On World Milk Day 2023, Greenfields Indonesia hopes to continue collaborating with the government of East Java Province in supporting the dairy industry and the health of the Indonesian community. “Thanks to their support, we can consistently produce nutritious and high-quality fresh milk. Together, we will continue to collaborate in supporting the role of the dairy industry to support the health and welfare of the Indonesian community,” concluded Andre.
