Heroic Action of a MUA, a Woman from Malang Who Assisted in Giving Birth on a Jakarta-Surabaya Flight

Kapanlagi.com - Julia Maria, a woman from Malang whose name went viral for spontaneously assisting in a birth during a flight from Jakarta to Surabaya. Julia Maria (40), a make-up artist, assisted in the birth of a woman who suddenly went into labor on a Pelita Air flight on Tuesday (27/6).

Julia initially heard an announcement from the flight attendants. At that time, the flight attendants needed a paramedic to assist in the birth. She was on a flight from Jakarta on Tuesday (28/6) at 13.50 WIB. 

Upon hearing this, Julia did not hesitate. She immediately moved to assist in the birth process to ensure the safety of the mother and baby.

At that time, the woman who was about to give birth was sitting in the back row of seats. Her water had broken, so she needed immediate help. The passengers on the plane were also very crowded, so some passengers were willing to stand up. 

"When the flight attendant made an announcement, there was no response from other passengers. So I approached the seat where the woman was sitting," said Julia Maria in Malang City, Wednesday (28/6). 

Julia herself is a makeup artist in her daily life. However, she often sees her sister, who is a midwife, helping with deliveries. With that experience, she took the initiative to help. 

"I asked for gloves, and at that time everything was available, including scissors to cut the umbilical cord," she said firmly. 

Julia described that the passengers on the plane were in a panic. At that time, three rows of seats in the back were emptied to create a spacious atmosphere. The flight attendants also immediately put up curtains to simply close off the area. 

"Because her water had broken, she was immediately laid down on the seats in the third row," she said firmly.

2. Successful Delivery! Julia is Relieved While Carrying the Baby

Julia admitted to asking the flight attendant for warm water. She also asked for the AC temperature to be raised as it felt very cold at that time.

"Because at that time, I felt it was a bit cold for the baby," she said firmly.

Julia asked the woman to help her deliver the baby, and the delivery was successful. Julia also tied both ends of the umbilical cord before asking other passengers to cut it.

"I didn't ask her to push, then I cut the umbilical cord. We had to cut it and tie it as tightly as possible, then cut it," she explained.

Julia felt relieved when she successfully carried the baby girl. The baby was cleaned and taken to an ambulance for assistance.
