It all started with the Lambe Turah account sharing a content about sexual harassment which turned out to be an advertisement for Shopee. Janit's Twitter account @jxnxt, who was the woman in the content, felt upset that her video was used as an advertisement. This was followed by other netizens who also felt annoyed.
Handhika Jahja, Director of Shopee Indonesia, spoke out about the controversy. Shopee Indonesia apologized and promised to be more careful in the future.

The contents of the statement shared by Shopee are as follows:
"Sexual harassment is a topic that needs to be addressed with attention and seriousness, not to be made a joke or promotion material. Shopee listens to every input conveyed by users regarding promotional materials on social media gossip a while ago. Therefore, we sincerely apologize for the use of inappropriate materials for marketing purposes.
In response to this input, Shopee has requested the related gossip social media account to immediately remove the promotional materials and the materials have been taken down since yesterday afternoon.
We appreciate the criticism and input to make us better and more cautious in the future, so that similar cases will not be repeated."
