The Sad Story of an Elementary School Child Who Suddenly Becomes an Orphan After His Parents Die from Covid, Taken Care of by Neighbors - Open Donation for Daily Needs

Kapanlagi.com - Sad story comes from East Kalimantan. Vino, a 3rd grade elementary school student in Linggang Purworejo Village, West Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, suddenly became an orphan because both of his parents died from Covid-19.

His mother, named Lina Safitri, 31 years old, passed away on Monday (19/7) while being 5 months pregnant. As if that was not enough, his father, Kino Raharjo, 31 years old, followed them a day later. They both died while undergoing intensive care at Harapan Insan Sendawar Hospital, West Kutai, due to Covid-19 positive.

Vino himself was also infected by the virus. However, he did not show any symptoms and ended up only undergoing self-isolation at home. "Vino only heard the news from home that his parents had passed away at the hospital. Currently, he is still undergoing self-isolation," said Vino's neighbor, Mistari, as quoted by Kompas.com (22/7).

Vino is currently being taken care of by his uncle named Margono and also his neighbors. "Vino's father is a mobile meatball seller. Here (at home), there are several (meatball) sellers who are all migrants from Java, their houses are adjacent, they take care of Vino," said Mistari. "Next to them is Vino's uncle, Mas Margono. Mas Margono is the one who delivers food, leaves it in front of the door, then Vino takes it himself," he added.

Even the neighbors accompany Vino to sleep at night, even though he is still undergoing self-isolation. The neighbors and the father's business partner sleep in front of the tent-covered door. Meanwhile, Vino sleeps on a spread out blanket and a mattress in the living room in front of the television.

His uncle, Margono, said that Vino did not attend the Covid-19 burial because of the self-isolation. "We told him that his parents had passed away. His response was crying. He said, how could they die, aren't his parents still young," he said. "But after that, he felt comforted again, many family members and relatives gave him food, and there were many people accompanying him at home," he added.

Karang Taruna Margo Mulyo, together with Kampung Linggang Purworejo, initiated a donation campaign for Vino. Slamet Dullah, the leader of Kampung Linggang Purworejo, said that they have issued a letter of approval for the donation campaign for Vino by Karang Taruna Margo Mulyo.

2. Open Donation

Donations will be open until Sunday (25/7/2021) through account number 0112907947 Bank Kaltimtara in the name of Karang Taruna Margo Mulyo, and it is expected to help all daily and school needs of Vino. "There are those who have donated and have been handed over," said Slamet.

The Head of the Donation Campaign Team from Karang Taruna Margo Mulyo, Mistari, hopes that in addition to the collected donations, he also hopes that the central government can provide Vino's school access without any fees.
