Kapanlagi.com - Malang City has officially submitted a request for Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). The request letter has been submitted to the Minister of Health through the Governor of East Java.
"The official letter has been submitted and last night I had direct communication with the Governor (Khofifah Indar Parawansa) and the Provincial Secretary (Heru Tjahjono)," said the Mayor of Malang, Sutiaji, after gathering the sub-district heads and village heads in a video conference on Wednesday (15/4).
The PSBB submission letter was sent on April 14, 2020, with the letter number 342.1/1040/35.73.100/2020 regarding the request for the determination of PSBB to the Minister of Health, with a copy to the Governor of East Java.

The letter is accompanied by 4 attachments, namely data on the increase in the number of cases, the spread of cases, local transaction incidents, as well as the readiness of the region regarding the availability of basic needs of the people, health facilities and infrastructure, budget and operationalization of social safety nets, and security aspects.
According to Sutiaji, the main point that needs to be done in Malang City is strengthening physical distancing. It is necessary to tighten or control the mobility or movement of people entering or leaving Malang City. So that when the Central and Provincial Governments approve the request, it can be easily conditioned.
In addition, Malang City also needs to pay attention to the tradition of homecoming (mudik) and the acceptance of new students. Not long before Eid al-Fitr, some people will return home to Malang City, as well as the arrival of new students estimated to be hundreds of thousands.
"All of that needs to be anticipated carefully and as early as possible. That's part of what I reported to the Governor," said Sutiaji.
The Mayor also conveyed the message from the East Java Governor regarding the strengthening of physical distancing evenly at the neighborhood level. The role and support of the community must be strengthened before the implementation of PSBB in the future.
In terms of the number of positive Covid-19 cases, Malang City is not as extreme as Surabaya, Lamongan, Gresik, and Sidoarjo. The rate of positive Covid-19 cases in the city is moving so fast.
"However, considering the traffic between Malang Regency and Batu City, Malang City is also vulnerable," said Sutiaji, accompanied by the Secretary of Malang City, Wasto.
Important points related to the implementation of PSBB or the strengthening of physical distancing are transit houses or quarantine houses. Blimbing and Lowokwaru Sub-districts took the initiative to propose quarantine house locations. However, it needs to be verified first.

Sutiaji also instructed his officials to carefully monitor the accuracy of social assistance recipients, as well as pay attention to Covid-19 protocols during the disbursement process. It should be noted that initially the Malang Raya region (Malang Regency and Malang City and Batu City) initiated the implementation of PSBB. However, along the way, Malang Regency and Batu City did not see the need to implement PSBB. So, only Malang City is ready to propose PSBB.
