Sinetron 'Dari Jendela SMP' Receives Many Complaints, KPI Still Assessing

Kapanlagi.com - The airing of the soap opera Dari Jendela SMP has sparked controversy among the public. Some have protested because they believe it is not suitable for teenagers due to discussions about pregnancy outside of marriage.

Many have praised the storyline for being different from most other soap operas. However, many have also filed complaints with the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission for various reasons.

"Until today, there have been more than 100 complaints received by the KPI regarding the content of the broadcast. But the KPI has a mechanism for monitoring and following up on public complaints. The KPI is currently conducting a study on the content and it will be discussed in a plenary meeting to determine if it violates any regulations. If it does, we will determine which article it violates and what sanctions should be imposed," said Nuning Rodiyah, Commissioner of the Central KPI, when contacted by KapanLagi.com on Saturday, (4/7).

1. SCTV Has Visited KPI

Meanwhile, SCTV as a television station that airs the soap opera Dari Jendela SMP has already visited the KPI office on June 26. The visit took place 3 days before the soap opera Dari Jendela SMP aired on television.

However, KPI will still review it, as they only started monitoring the soap opera after it aired. During the meeting, SCTV conveyed to KPI that there are no pregnancy scenes during junior high school.

2. Examined Next Tuesday

Currently, the examination tickets for the soap opera Dari Jendela SMP have been submitted to KPI. The decision regarding whether there is a violation or not from this soap opera will be made next Tuesday, (7/7).

"We have a plenary meeting on Tuesday. The examination of sanctions will be held on Tuesday. God willing, we can make a decision on that day. For example, if it is determined to be a violation, there will be sanctions for the soap opera. The first one could be a written warning, it could be a temporary suspension if it meets the criteria for Temporary Suspension Violations, and it could be a reduction in duration. These are some rules regarding sanctions," he said.

3. KPI Already Knows That There Is No Pregnancy Scene in Junior High School

Nuning also conveyed that the KPI has already known that there is actually no pregnancy scene in junior high school as reported by the audience. However, they will re-examine all episodes that have aired from this new soap opera.

"Already released by the KPI in the news, that SCTV stated that the soap opera to be aired does not depict pregnancy in junior high school. Apparently, maybe the public, in line with our examination process, if they find such context, of course, we will reverse it to P3 SPS. In P3 SPS, it is indeed prohibited to depict scenes of premarital relations as something ordinary and not portrayed as negative behavior, that is definitely a violation. Well, later we will assess whether it is depicted as negative behavior or not ordinary, we will assess it thoroughly," he explained.

4. Post Truth Phenomenon

Before this soap opera became widely reported to the KPI, director Indrayanto Kurniawan admitted to having a message that he wanted to convey behind the story of Dari Jendela SMP. Namely, the issue of post-truth, where lies are now easier to believe than the truth.

"If we observe the development of life, it is filled with post-truth. Well, post-truth eventually makes lies become truth, truth can disappear, and lies become something that is believed. This is what we are trying to manage, the idea is like that. Hopefully, we can convey that this phenomenon can be communicated well," said Indrayanto.
