The high rainfall caused the water to overflow and inundate almost all roads. Even some residential areas were submerged in floods that reached the roofs of houses. Preliminary reports state that dozens of lives have been lost, and the number could still increase as many victims have yet to be found.Eduardo Leite, the Governor of Rio Grande Do Sul, stated that this disaster is the worst in the history of Rio Grande Do Sul. According to the Brazilian Geological Survey, the floods across this state have surpassed the historic floods of 1941, and the water level is at its highest point since recording began almost 150 years ago.
