Wife AR Rahman, Saira Banu, announced that they will be separating after nearly three decades of marriage. This statement was made through Saira's lawyer, Vandana Shah, on Tuesday, (19/11).
In her statement, Vandana mentioned that the decision to separate was made after much consideration, given the significant emotional strain in their relationship.
The statement explained that although the couple has a deep love for each other, the tension and difficulties in their relationship have created a chasm that is difficult to bridge. Both parties feel that they can no longer address the issues present in the relationship at this time.
Saira revealed that this decision was made with deep pain and suffering. She also requested that the public provide privacy and understanding during this difficult process, as she must enter a new phase in her life that is full of challenges.
AR Rahman's son, AR Ameen, also conveyed a similar request through his Instagram account. Ameen asked the public to respect their family's privacy during this difficult situation. He expressed gratitude for the understanding and support given.
AR Rahman and Saira's marriage began in 1995, and after nearly 30 years together, they were blessed with three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. Although they have been together for many years, they have now decided to live their own lives.
AR Rahman once shared the story of his meeting with Saira in an interview a few years ago. At that time, he revealed that he was very busy with work and hadn't had the chance to think about marriage. He told his mother at the age of 29, "Find me a wife."
