Barkha Madan is a former Bollywood actress now known as Gyalten Samten after choosing to dedicate her life to Buddhist teachings. Before transitioning to a spiritual life, Barkha was famous as a model and competed in the Miss India 1994 pageant alongside Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen.

In the Miss India 1994 pageant, Barkha Madan won the title of Miss Tourism India, while Sushmita Sen won the main title. Barkha then represented India in the Miss Tourism International pageant in Malaysia and achieved third place.

Barkha made her acting debut in Bollywood through the film Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996) starring Akshay Kumar. Although the film was successful, it was not until seven years later that Barkha got another role in the Indian film industry.

In addition to films, Barkha also appeared in several television dramas. One of her most recognized roles is as Rani Laxmi Bai in the series 1857 Kranti. She also appeared in the horror film Bhoot (2003), where she played the character Manjeet Khosla.

After Bhoot, Barkha returned to television and joined the series Saat Phere, which aired from 2005 to 2009. Although her career in the entertainment industry began to flourish, Barkha started to become interested in spirituality.

Throughout her career, Barkha often expressed her interest in the teachings of the Dalai Lama and spirituality. In 2012, after releasing the film Surkhaab which she produced, Barkha decided to leave the entertainment industry.

Barkha Madan adopted the name Gyalten Samten and dedicated her life to the teachings of Buddha. She now lives in the mountains, leading a simple life away from the media spotlight.
