10 Photos of Ammar Zoni Who Now Has His Sentence Increased by 4 Years, Complaining Compared to Major Corruption Cases

“When we received the verdict, we told Ammar, and he said, 'Why is it that my uncle has nothing wrong, and there is no one else? Just to live, I am already not okay, now this sentence is added, it feels like sharp downwards but blunt downwards,'" said Jon Mathias at the Salemba Detention Center, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (12/11/2024). 

According to Jon Mathias, Ammar Zoni feels confused by the legal decision against him, especially when comparing it to major corruption cases that received only light sentences.

"They say, look at the corruption cases where the state lost 500 billion, and they are only sentenced to 4 years, now the law is only 3 years 'I didn't harm anyone and harmed myself but was punished with 4 years,'" he said.

However, the problem does not stop there. The public prosecutor is also not satisfied with the decision of the high court. They continue to file a cassation, which means Ammar Zoni's sentence could potentially be increased to 12 years.

"The prosecutor is still not satisfied and is filing for cassation so that Ammar remains sentenced to 12 years," he said.

Jhon also revealed that Ammar's personal condition, which is currently in a downturn, increasingly affects his perspective on the law. 

In addition to legal issues, Ammar is also facing significant personal problems, including a divorce from his wife, Irish Bella, and the loss of his father. All these burdens add pressure for Ammar, who is currently going through a difficult time.

"I don’t know why the law can be like this. Ammar is struggling with a very heavy personal situation. Divorce, father passing away, communication with his child, all of this is making him even more stressed," said Jhon Mathias,  

For Jon, this situation feels increasingly difficult to understand. He feels confused seeing how the legal system can impose punishments that seem unfair, while on the other hand, there are bigger cases with lighter sentences.

"Sometimes it's confusing how the law works. Why is it that for 2 people in such a situation (divorce, father passing away, communication with the child), it ends up like this," he concluded.
