6 Cake Shops Have to Close, Teuku Wisnu is Forced to Lay Off Some Employees

Kapanlagi.com - Teuku Wisnu also feels the impact of the current coronavirus pandemic. Some of his modern cake shops have to temporarily close. Currently, there are only two shops that are still operating.

"Because the industry is tourism-related. So the income comes when tourists come to the city. Then we get income from people who buy souvenirs. Now, automatically, (our shops) that used to have 8 branches are now reduced to only 2 that we keep open. It really feels tough," said Teuku Wisnu when met in Tendean, South Jakarta recently.

1. Had to Lay Off Several Employees

Due to a significant decrease in income, Shireen Sungkar's husband had to lay off some of his employees. However, he still provided THR (holiday allowance) to his employees as it is the company's obligation.

"There are some (employees who were laid off), we cannot deny it because we also have a heavy burden of salaries that we used to be able to handle, but now our turnover has dropped sharply. In this kind of situation, we are also confused," he said.

2. Still Providing THR

"We are trying to communicate with the employees about this situation, let's fight together, some may want to stay but if they don't, it's understandable. But we still provide THR because it is our company's obligation," continued Teuku Wisnu.

3. Finding Other Alternatives to Stay Afloat

Not wanting to give up easily, Teuku Wisnu racked his brains on how to keep his business running. For example, by selling frozen food and cakes that can still be consumed daily.

"But we won't give up just like that. We try to figure out how not only to sell (cakes) as souvenirs. But we can also sell other things with the resources we have. For example, we sell frozen food or produce cakes that can be consumed daily," he concluded.
