7 Portraits of Oki Rengga Reminiscing Moments Participating in Stand Up Comedy Competitions, Now Trusted to be a Judge in the 'Comic 8: Revolution' Event

The Comic 8: Revolution event brings a special nostalgia for Oki Rengga, an actor and comedian. This time, Oki is not competing as he used to, but instead serves as a judge in a competition featuring talented comedians from all over Indonesia.

As a former participant in stand-up comedy competitions, Oki has extensive experience regarding the challenges faced by the contestants. He recalls the times when he had to undergo quarantine and face the high-pressure atmosphere of the stage. Here are the details.

"Yes, I remember quite a bit from my first competition, it was about 2 months in the dormitory, the second one was longer but not in the dormitory, because Suci lasted about 8 months if I'm not mistaken," said Oki when met at Karnos Film Studio, East Jakarta, Saturday (16/11/2024).

According to Oki, those times are still fresh in his memory, even making him nostalgic. He expressed how the struggles in the competition provided many lessons. "Yes, I spent a long time there, so I miss the competition situation quite a bit. I really felt it when the performance didn't get laughs," he said.

Currently, the Comic 8: Revolution competition has entered its seventh week, with 15 participants still remaining after Bocil had to be eliminated the night before. Oki praised the progress of the participants who continue to show improvement in each of their performances. "This is the 7th elimination, and if we look at the performance in this 7th week, there has been a lot of progress," said Oki.

However, Oki did not hesitate to provide critical evaluation of Bocil's performance, the participant from Langsa, Aceh, who was eliminated. He emphasized the importance of paying attention to assessment aspects that do not solely focus on stand-up. "Actually, for those going home tonight, Bocil's performance was indeed low. They must continuously realize that the assessment in this competition is not just based on stand-up," he explained.

Bocil expressed his sadness about having to leave his comrades who have been with him for weeks. "Of course I feel sad about losing friends who have gone through days and even months together, and this time I have to part from them," said Bocil after the event.

In addition to Oki, this competition also involved two senior comedians, Indro Warkop and Cak Lontong, as judges. Their presence provided a professional touch and objective assessment for the participants.

More than just a competition, Comic 8: Revolution serves as a gateway for young comedians to break into the film industry. The eight best participants will have the opportunity to act in the film Comic 8: Revolution produced by Falcon Pictures, which is one of the main attractions of this event.
