Laura Basuki, an actress who has played in dozens of films, still remembers her first casting. Laura Basuki admitted that it all started when she was contacted by producer Nia Dinata for a film casting.
"The first casting was in 2008, for the film GARA GARA BOLA, the producer was Nia Dinata at that time," said Laura Basuki when visiting the KLY office in Central Jakarta, Monday (14/8/2023).
"So I was a newcomer who had never acted or cast before. Suddenly I was asked to cast for a film," she added.
Laura Basuki admitted that she was asked to audition for the movie GARA GARA BOLA because Nia Dinata saw her photo in one of the magazines.
"Nia Dinata saw my photo in the magazine and contacted me for an audition. So I came to fulfill the casting call," she said.
Although Laura is a beginner who has never acted or auditioned before, she went through the casting as a form of respect for Nia Dinata. Laura Basuki revealed that she didn't actually feel nervous when asked to audition.
She admitted that at that time she came to fulfill the casting call without any intention to pursue a career in the acting world.
"Casting time was not nervous because I didn't really think about what I wanted to be. I auditioned to answer the call, to honor Nia Dinata, but I didn't think about what role I wanted, I didn't want to pursue a career here," said Laura Basuki.
For Laura, casting was more like a mere whim. However, when the shooting process began, her feelings changed drastically. She started to feel a strong attraction to the acting world, and from there her career as an actress began.
"So it was really just a whim, but once I started shooting, I started to feel 'wow, I really like this'," concluded Laura Basuki.
