Actor Arya Saloka attended the funeral of Johnny Wong, the father of Baim Wong, in the Gondangdia area, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/1/2025). His presence was not only to pay final respects but also to reflect on the family relationship he had only discovered in recent years.
Arya revealed that he only realized he had a family relationship with Baim Wong around 2019, when he found out that they were actually cousins.
“Actually it has been a long time, but I mean when I just found out around 2019, I just learned that I am cousins with Baim. I just met Uncle Johnny,” said Arya.
His first meeting with the late Johnny Wong occurred at the premiere of a film that brought him together with Baim Wong in one project. Arya described Johnny Wong as a very kind person.
“So indeed meeting at the premiere, he was a very kind person. He was also nice to me at that time, but because the premiere was crowded, maybe Uncle Johnny went to rest right away so we couldn't chat much,” he said.
Even though their meeting was limited, Arya still felt full support from Johnny Wong for the film project. He appreciated the late Johnny's attitude of being very supportive of Baim's work and himself in that project.
“He was very supportive of Baim's project with me yesterday. Definitely very supportive. From the last time I met him, he was indeed supportive,” said Arya.
Arya's presence at the funeral home was not only a form of respect but also to provide support to Baim Wong who is in mourning.
Baim is known to have a very close relationship with his father, making this loss a heavy blow for him.
As a family member and friend, Arya hopes that prayers and support from everyone can strengthen the family left behind. He also reminisces about the brief moments he shared with Johnny Wong as valuable memories.
