When met in the Gondangdia area, Central Jakarta recently, Boah talked about how she spent the holy month of Ramadan alone. She also admitted that when it was time to break the fast and have suhoor, a feeling of sadness and the urge to cry started to overwhelm her.
Because Boah has to adapt to doing Ramadan habits on his own, without the presence of his mother.
"There are many differences. Boah has spent three years of Ramadan as a boarding student and it's breaking the fast and having suhoor alone. Sometimes Boah wants to cry because he is far from his mother," said Boah Sartika.
"Because my mother often prepares food, this is the third year I'm doing it alone because Boah rarely goes home," she continued.
When asked further, Boah explained the reasons for choosing to live alone in a boarding house. Besides the long distance, work matters are also reasons why Boah Sartika lives alone in a boarding house.
Especially Boah Sartika is currently pursuing higher education. "For example, usually after breaking the fast, I don't get to break it at home, but thankfully this year there are many activities during fasting, not just lying down," she said.
In addition, this year's fasting also feels different for Boah because she can cook by herself to prepare the iftar and suhoor menu.
"And also, this year's fasting is different, Boah can cook. Cook for suhoor. It's quite a task," she added.
