Haykal Kamil revealed a rather surprising fact about his relationship with Zaskia Mecca. Known as a harmonious family and working together, it turns out that Haykal was once fired by his sister.
This was revealed in a podcast interview broadcasted by the TikTok account @modestalk. In front of the host, Haykal opened up about the facts surrounding his dismissal that occurred in 2014.
Initially, Haykal felt optimistic and excited when he joined Zaskia's company. However, after just three months, he was called in for a serious talk. In a comfortable office room, Zaskia delivered the unexpected decision.
"It turns out that after just three months of joining, I was immediately fired," Haykal revealed. "In the office, I was called in like, 'We don't think you're a good fit for us, your style is too serious, we want to run this business in a fun way, but with you, everything becomes complicated, everything has to be documented, everything has to go through you, this is mine, why do I have to get your approval?'" said Haykal, mimicking the conversation.
Zaskia told Haykal that she wanted to run her business casually and fun. However, Haykal was too serious about work, he noted everything and Zaskia needed his approval.
Hearing that, Haykal felt confused and asked, “Well, it seems like I can no longer work with you, so we will have to let you go.” Haykal felt his heart stop for a moment upon hearing his sibling's words.
“Maybe at first it hit me really hard,” he added. This incident briefly strained the relationship between Zaskia and Haykal, but it didn't last long. After that, she created a new brand and continued to involve her brother as a commissioner.
In his new company, Haykal emphasized that Zaskia's position is as a strategist, not in operations. Now, they have been running the company for 10 years and remain harmonious.
