A Touching Story Behind Luna Maya and Maxime Bouttier's Batik Fabric Before Their Wedding, Involving 1000 People

The fabric was not just an accessory, but a symbol of love and longing for parents who have passed away. This was directly conveyed by Asri Welas, who was the person behind the creation of the special fabric.

"For her event, I have the fabric Denyut Semesta, the process is long from cotton to weaving and it was done by 1000 people," said Asri when met at XXI Epicentrum, South Jakarta, Friday (9/5/2025).

1. Fabric Dyeing Using Techniques

Asri explained that the fabric dyeing uses special techniques and materials that represent cultural diversity. The batik technique chosen is not arbitrary, but rather rich in meaning and symbols.

"On that fabric, we made the dye using the colors of the 11 Dayak tribes in Kalimantan, then after that, we applied the Ba technique to squeeze, splatter, and scratch the batik, then there is the Tik technique, which is a symbol," she explained.

2. Starting from Luna Maya's Desire

The creative process began when Luna Maya expressed her desire for her father to still be present in a visual form on her happy day. This request was then interpreted by Asri through deeply meaningful batik.

"Well, yesterday Luna said, 'Mbak Asri, my father is no longer here and my father has a painting of my father and me, can it be made into batik on the Denyut Semesta fabric?' Then there is the Sidomukti fabric, Sidoluhur, there is the creation of love, a rise in dignity that prays for good descendants, compassion, since she works in the creative industry, hopefully, she can be creative, all of that is poured into that fabric," Asri revealed.

3. Wants to Bring Memories of Parents on Happy Day

Not only Luna, Maxime also expressed a similar request so that his late mother could 'be present' on his wedding day. Both are united in wanting to bring their parents' memories through the fabric they wear.

"He said, 'My dad can't see me get married, so he's on my fabric, so before the ceremony, I want his picture on the fabric.' Maxime is the same, since his mother has passed away, there’s a childhood photo of Max with his mother, he also asked, 'Can my mom's photo be on the fabric, so she knows I'm getting married?' so yes, it was made for him, said Asri.

According to Asri, the fabric serves as a means for Luna and Maxime to channel their deep longing for their parents. She feels touched to be involved in that emotional moment.

"They are happy because through that picture they can express their longing to their family, since they cannot be present. I was also very happy when Luna and Maxime performed the cleansing ritual before the wedding ceremony using that, hopefully, everything goes well," said Asri in closing.
