Anggun C Sasmi is in the spotlight for being accused of supporting Zionism. The accusation originated from an X account (formerly Twitter) that claimed Anggun is a supporter of Zionism. After the post went viral, Anggun finally provided clarification on the issue.
This is the post from the X account @/zionistmusic which stated that Anggun shared her support for Israel in the European singing competition in 2015 and 2016 and gave points to contestants from Israel.
Anggun then provided clarification through a post on her Instagram account on Sunday, 23/02/2025. Anggun did not deny her comments about Israel in 2015 & 2016.
Anggun also confirmed that she gave points to Israel in the European singing competition in 2023 that was broadcast live on TV.
However, Anggun emphasized that all of this does not make her a political supporter of Israel.
Anggun spoke in the context of music, but she considers the post from that account to be out of context, making her a target of hatred.
At the end of her statement, Anggun mentioned that she has always upheld humanity and has never supported Israel's politics against Palestine.
Born on April 29, 1974, in Jakarta, Anggun began her music career at the age of seven. After achieving success in her home country, Anggun decided to take a step further by moving to Europe in 1994.
This decision proved to be correct, as she successfully penetrated the international music market with the album Snow on the Sahara released in 1997 and sold in 33 countries.
