Advancing to become a legislative candidate, Opie Kumis submits a request for name equivalence: M Lutfi and Opie Kumis belong to the same person

Kapanlagi.com - Comedian Opie Kumis visited the East Jakarta District Court accompanied by his lawyer, Madha Besar Surya. As it turns out, Opie Kumis submitted a request for a name equivalence trial between Muchtar Luthfi and Opie Kumis.

"I want to make a name equivalence. If people know me on screen as Opie Kumis. From M Lutfi to (Opie Kumis). Name equivalence, two names, M Lutfi and Opie Kumis belong to one person. It has to be handled in court," he said on Tuesday (18/7/2023).

The 63-year-old man emphasized that the request for a name equivalence trial does not mean that the name on his ID card will also change. His name on the identity card remains the same, which is Muchtar Luthfi.

"It's not changed, M Lutfi is the same as Opie Kumis. Two names with the same person. The ID card is not changed, because this is just a name equivalence," he said.

For the process itself, Madha Besar Surya said that the trial process itself does not take long. Next week, the judges will read the decision. "Yes, it's just a matter of being read, just accepting a copy," explained Madha. 

2. So That People Are Not Confused

Apparently, Opie Kumis filed a name similarity trial because of his intention to run as a candidate for Dapil 6 from the PAN party. He didn't want people to be confused between M Luthfi and Opie Kumis.

"So I have one need, I want to register as a candidate. So every day I'm tired, people call me Bang Opie Kumis. But in the book, there's no Opie Kumis, it's M Luthfi," he explained.

"So I told the ladies that my name is Opie Kumis, but actually it's M Lutfi. Sometimes there are people who say M Lutfi is ugly, just use Opie Kumis. So I have to make this so that people can see. That's the reason," he concluded.
