'AGAK LAEN 2' Brings a New Genre of Investigative Comedy in a Nursing Home

The phenomenal success of the film AGAK LAEN apparently did not make its personnel complacent. For the highly anticipated sequel, AGAK LAEN: MENYALA PANTIKU, they are daring to take a different step by introducing a fresh new genre, which is investigative comedy.

This was revealed by Bene Dion at a press conference in South Jakarta on Friday (7/11/2025). According to him, this genre change is intentional to provide a different experience for the audience.

"If the first one had horror comedy, horror. Now, the second one we call investigative comedy, kompes," said Bene Dion.

Indra Jegel responded with his characteristic humor, referring to the abbreviated name. "One comedy, one horror, no L in it," joked Jegel, which was met with laughter.

Bene explained that the premise of this story is indeed very different. The four friends, who are now failed detectives, will be assigned to investigate a mysterious murder case at a nursing home. This setting is the main source of the new comedic tone. "The second premise is about four detectives searching for the mayor's child's killer, who is suspected to be hiding in the nursing home," explained Bene.

Interacting with the residents of the nursing home, he said, would create unique and different comedic situations from his first film, which involved more interaction with night market visitors and restless spirits.

"If the first one was about shouting with ghosts, with all the night market visitors, now we are doing comedy related to the residents of the nursing home," he said.

Besides the genre, Bene also mentioned a change in the film's "color" visually. If the first film was dominated by a mysterious purple color, the second film will come with a different color palette.

"In terms of film, the colors are different. If the first one was purple, this second one is terracotta," Bene revealed.

With these various changes, AGAK LAEN: MENYALA PANTIKU, which will premiere on November 27, 2025, is ready to present a show that is not only funny but also fresh and full of surprises.
