Vadel Badjideh's Intention to Marry Lolly Rejected by Judge, Considered Counterproductive to His Actions

One of the arguments presented by Vadel Badjideh in his appeal memorandum turned out to backfire on himself. His intention to marry the victim, who is the daughter of Nikita Mirzani, was actually rejected and not believed by the panel of judges at the DKI Jakarta High Court.

Instead of being a mitigating consideration, this reason was deemed counterproductive to his actions, which had caused the victim to have two miscarriages. This was revealed by Catur Irianto, the spokesperson for the DKI Jakarta High Court, while explaining the considerations behind the decision that increased Vadel's sentence to 12 years in prison.

"He requested that the leniency is because he wants to marry or make the victim's child his wife. This means he intends to marry, there is an intention to marry," said Catur Irianto when met at the Jakarta High Court, Friday (7/11/2025).

However, the panel of judges has a different view. They questioned Vadel's sincerity, which is not in line with his actions. According to the judges, if Vadel truly had good intentions, he should have taken care of and loved the victim, not ask her to terminate the pregnancy.

"The panel sees that he says he wants to marry but then he causes her to terminate the pregnancy twice... How can he say he wants to marry if he just goes ahead with the terminations? Perhaps that is the panel's thinking," explained Catur.

The rejection of this argument is even explicitly stated in the decision document. The judge believes that Vadel's intention to marry does not provide any confidence. "That he wants to marry is not trusted by the judge, you see. No, it does not give the judge any confidence. He has the intention, but his behavior is like that," emphasized Catur.

"Meanwhile, it is stated here that it should be protected and cherished if the intention to marry the victim is true," he continued, quoting the contents of the decision.

As is known, this case began with a report from Nikita Mirzani regarding the alleged sexual intercourse committed by Vadel against her underage daughter.

The judge's rejection of Vadel's reasons became one of the key factors that led to the increase in his sentence, while also sending a clear message that good intentions must be accompanied by actions that align with them.
