Andmesh Kamaleng Shares His Journey of Becoming the Backbone of His Family Since High School

"After my father's passing in 2014, I was in my third year of high school. Whether I liked it or not, I had to take his place as a musician. So, I traveled around playing music to earn a living," said Andmesh when met in the Kapten Tendean area, Mampang, South Jakarta, on Monday (2/12/2024). 

As the only son in the family, Andmesh feels he has to take on that big responsibility. "The situation forces Andmesh like that, because coincidentally Andmesh is the only boy in the family," he added. 

For Andmesh, being the family's breadwinner is a natural thing for a man. "As men, our duty is to provide for the family to earn a living, that's a normal thing. But how we can appreciate that is what matters. So, as a man, we should also be proud to be able to support a large family until now," he explained.

In addition, Andmesh also outlined who is currently his responsibility. "The ones that must be supported are my younger sibling, and soon my older sibling, amen, may they find their own path. Maybe the overall support is a lot, but that's a privacy I can't disclose. My younger sibling is already my responsibility as an older brother, a family responsibility to take care of them forever," he explained.

Although he carries a heavy burden, Andmesh claims he does not feel the weight of that role. "No, maybe that's God's way of providing Andmesh with blessings. I can bring them happiness through simple blessings," he said gratefully.

When asked how he defines success, Andmesh mentioned that the achievements he has now are part of his dreams. "To define success, I feel this is what I have dreamed of for a long time. But God gives more, but with the condition of being given more but not together," Andmesh revealed softly.

Andmesh's struggle over the years has not only become an inspirational story but also a reminder that family responsibility is a calling that must be carried out with a sincere heart.

Now, the name Andmesh Kamaleng is widely recognized in the Indonesian music industry. The journey from a high school teenager who performed at various gigs to becoming a renowned musician is proof that hard work and gratitude can change lives.
