Kapanlagi.com - Anti-drug activist and former high-ranking National Narcotics Agency (BNN) officer, Brigadier General Retired Siswandi, responds to the arrest of soap opera actor Jeff Smith.
It is known that Jeff Smith has once again been apprehended by the police for drug abuse on Wednesday (8/12).
Siswandi expressed his surprise as there seems to be no deterrent effect despite legal action being taken. Moreover, Jeff Smith had just been released from prison in September 2021 for the same case.
Not only that, Siswandi criticized Jeff Smith's reasons for consuming illegal substances as being very unreasonable. Therefore, Siswandi hopes that the police can classify who the dealers, couriers, and drug users are.
"Another artist got caught, why doesn't he learn his lesson? JS was previously arrested by the West Jakarta Police for using marijuana. He was just released in September, why did he relapse after a few months?" said Siswandi when met in the Panglima Polim area, South Jakarta, on Friday (10/12) afternoon.
"His reasons are unreasonable, using LSD for immune system, it's not true. Law enforcement agencies should be able to classify who the dealers, couriers, and users are because being imprisoned for 5 months may not cure them. If the sentence is for rehabilitation, there is a possibility of recovery even though there are no guarantees. If he goes back to it, he will still be the same," he continued.
Certainly, as a former senior official of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and an anti-drug activist, Siswandi deeply regrets this. Out of the numerous drug cases involving public figures, it should serve as a lesson for both the community and other artists to stay away from such illicit substances.
"It's very regrettable that he, as a young figure, is caught in drugs repeatedly without learning his lesson. If he doesn't learn his lesson, he should face a heavy sentence so that other artists know not to try it. If Jeff is caught at home, it means he was targeted unless he's somewhere else. Our advice is for popular artists to avoid getting involved with drugs. Learn from artists who have been caught with drugs," he concluded.
