Before Becoming a Singer, Putih Abu-Abu Turns Out to Be a Comedy Group

Kapanlagi.com - Starting from school activities, five beautiful students from SMK Dharma Kusuma, Cianjur, West Java formed a music group called Putih Abu-Abu. The group, consisting of Cheryll, Karin, Reikhansa, Intan, and Taya, often cover hit songs from famous bands or singers in the country.

Starting from covering songs by Melly Goeslaw, Armada Band, Lucinta Luna, Syakir Daulay, Sheila On 7, and many more. Interestingly, almost all of the songs they cover reach millions of viewers on YouTube.

"So many people thought that Putih Abu-Abu was an extracurricular activity. This actually started from me seeing these kids not participating in extracurricular activities, which I think is a waste because they are in their productive age but have no activities, so I invited them to form this," said Ogan, one of the teachers at SMK Dharma Kusuma and the person who formed Putih Abu-Abu, at the Warner Music Indonesia office in Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9/2020).

1. Not Selling

Apparently, before Putih Abu-Abu seriously covered songs, they used to create comedy content on YouTube. However, due to low viewership, Putih Abu Abu stopped making comedy sketch content and started covering songs in their own way. Coincidentally, the songs they covered were watched by millions of viewers.

"Initially, it wasn't music, but a comedy group. Maybe because it didn't sell on YouTube, eventually in 2017 Putih Abu Abu was formed as a music group. Initially, we performed the song 'Bocah Ngapa Yak' by Wali, because it had many viewers, so we continued," said Ogan.

2. Launching New Work

Seeing the success of Putih Abu-Abu in covering songs, a well-known music label, Warner Music Indonesia, became interested in bringing the teenagers from Ciaunjur to create new work.

"We recently released the song 'Denganmu', which is our fifth song, and it was released after joining Warner Music Indonesia," said Karin.

3. Going to Make an Album

The plan is that Putih Abu-Abu will work on their debut album under the Warner Music Indonesia label.

Ogan, the person behind the formation of Putih Abu-Abu, said that currently Putih Abu-Abu is preparing to work on their debut album. If there are no obstacles, the debut album of Putih Abu-Abu is planned to be released at the end of this year or early 2021.
