Charged with Criminal Imprisonment, Lawyer Hopes for Ammar Zoni's Rehabilitation

Kapanlagi.com - Actor Ammar Zoni underwent the first trial of a narcotics case with the agenda of reading the indictment letter by the public prosecutor at the South Jakarta District Court, Tuesday (22/8/2023).

In the trial, Ammar Zoni was charged with criminal imprisonment under alternative articles, namely Article 112 paragraph 1 Jo Article 132 paragraph 1 and Article 127 paragraph 1, concerning the possession and use of narcotics.

"So Ammar was charged with alternative charges. There are two charges there, the main charge regarding possession and the second one is about usage," said Agung Ahmad Wijaya, Ammar Zoni's legal counsel after the trial.

1. Fighting for Rehabilitation

Agung feels that imprisonment is not appropriate for Ammar Zoni's criminal charges. Therefore, he will fight for Ammar Zoni to be able to receive a rehabilitation verdict.

"Because the rehabilitation assessment has been accepted by the investigator and Ammar has already undergone rehabilitation at the rehab center. The examination results also state that Ammar falls into the category of light users," he said.

Not only that factor alone makes Agung believe that Ammar Zoni deserves a rehabilitation verdict.

"Ammar is also not involved in international networks. Prosecutors and police also confirm this, and Ammar is not a wanted person by the police. Because when two of Ammar's friends were arrested, the police were following up on another report, where the crime scene was often used for drug abuse," he explained.

2. Hoping for Rehabilitation

The Prosecutor's indictment uses Article 127 of Law No. 35 of 2009, making Agung more convinced that his client will receive a rehabilitation sentence. Especially because Ammar has been previously arrested for the same case.

"Because Ammar is a user even though he has been arrested twice for the same case. So we are convinced that Ammar will be sentenced to rehabilitation," said Agung Ahmad Wijaya.
