Kapanlagi.com - El Barack Alexander, the son of Jessica Iskandar, shows his independence in a unique way. The 10-year-old boy now has his own price list for every shooting invitation. Not only does he set the rates, but he also establishes additional rules, such as extra fees if the shooting time runs over or if there are additional activities. Jessica Iskandar admitted she was surprised when she first learned about this.
"Yes, at first it was late at night and El Barack called me to his room, then I came, and suddenly he gave me his price list. I laughed inside, but I couldn't react on the spot because I was afraid he would get confused later," she said when met in the Dharmawangsa area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (18/2/2025).
Although he seems serious with the price list he created, El Barack actually still gives his mother some leeway.
"So I said, 'Wow, that's expensive?' I said that, and then he replied, 'Yes, mom, that's my price list, but we can negotiate.' But it says here that negotiation is allowed, then he said, 'No, no, it’s not allowed, but for mom, we can negotiate,' he said," added Jessica.
El Barack's decision to set this shooting fee stemmed from his desire to have a new computer. The boy wanted to buy a PC, but Jessica felt that the device would only be used for gaming.
“It started with El Barack wanting to buy a computer, a PC, but I knew he would use it to play games, so I said, 'just wait, if you want to use a computer you already have an iPad and a laptop',” Jessica explained.
Not to be outsmarted, El Barack offered a solution to get his dream PC. Jessica felt this method could teach her son the meaning of effort and hard work. Therefore, she allowed El Barack to collect his own money to buy the desired item.
“Then just the other day, he said, 'can I collect money to buy a PC?' So I said, 'sure, you can collect it yourself' because it represents his effort to buy it himself, like his hard work. Even though the money is also from me,” she said.
In addition to setting shooting rates, El Barack also started asking for weekly money as part of the fundraising process. “So I gladly said, 'sure, if you want to collect money, go ahead.' Then he wanted to buy a PC that costs around Rp28 million, so oh well, just collect the money. Now everything he does is about money. So now he has started asking for weekly money, and now he says 'please give me weekly money,' Rp200 thousand, so in a month he gets 800,” said Jessica.
El Barack also carries out various household tasks to earn that weekly money. “So in a week, that Rp200 thousand, he does things like making the bed, tidying up the room, brushing his teeth, washing, bathing, and helping take care of his little brother. And there’s one more request, an extra wish, oh well, that Rp200 thousand is per week,” she said.
After calculating the income from the weekly money, El Barack realized that gathering Rp28 million would take a long time. Therefore, he looked for other ways to reach his target more quickly.
"He just thought about it, he calculated, oh so if it’s Rp800 thousand a month, he would get around Rp9 million 6 hundred a year. He thinks collecting Rp28 million will take quite a while if it’s Rp200 thousand a week. So he started to get creative if the shooting pays now," Jessica revealed.
Realizing that her son was starting to think of ways to earn money in a halal manner, Jessica fully supported him.
"So it's his effort to achieve what he wants. I just support him in thinking of how to earn money, but in a halal way," she concluded.
