Fairuz A Rafiq & Sonny Septian Implement a Strict Muraja'ah System for Children During Ramadan

Having children who are good at memorizing the Qur'an is a special pride for the couple Fairuz A Rafiq and Sonny Septian. Currently, King Faaz has memorized Juz 27, while Eijaz has memorized Juz 30. Even little Zhafi can now fluently recite short surahs.

However, Fairuz and Sonny realize that the biggest challenge for a memorizer is to maintain that memorization so it is not forgotten. Therefore, during this Ramadan, they are tightening the intensity of muraja'ah or revisiting memorization that has been previously learned.

"What is the purpose? Brother Faaz has memorized up to Juz 27, which means he has completed Juz 30. Sister Eijaz is on Juz 30. The goal is to review all the surahs he has memorized so that he always remembers them. So, we shouldn't let the old surahs be forgotten," said Fairuz A Rafiq when met in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (24/2/2016).

Sonny Septian fully supports his wife's efforts. According to him, it is pointless for the children to keep adding new memorization while neglecting the old surahs they have already memorized. He wants his children to truly preserve every verse that has entered their memory.

"Getting new surahs while forgetting the old ones is not acceptable. Because if you want to be a memorizer of the Qur'an, why is the reward paradise? It is because we have to practice every day, we have to repeat it," said Sonny Septian.

In addition to relying on a Quran teacher who comes to the house three times a week, Fairuz and Sonny also directly participate in listening to their children's memorization. Sonny usually takes on the role of accompanying during dawn, while Fairuz takes over after the maghrib prayer.

"If I and my husband still have many shortcomings. And we still don't fully understand, even I still call a Quran teacher to the house to learn Quran again, to improve what is lacking within ourselves. Of course, parents want their children to be better than us," explained Fairuz A Rafiq.

Sonny also feels it is important for parents to be directly involved in their children's learning process. He does not want to miss precious moments in accompanying the spiritual growth of their child.

"It's a shame if as parents we don't take part in our children's memorization process like that. Later, only the teachers will get the reward, right? If we can be a part of it, Insya Allah we can also be part of their memorization process," said Sonny Septian.
