In front of the finalists, Nawat reprimanded her for not following promotional directions and the sponsor's photo shoot schedule. The situation escalated when Nawat exclaimed, "If you only follow the orders of your national director, you are a stupid head."
The recording of the moment went viral and sparked widespread condemnation for being deemed unprofessional, while Fatima chose to walk out as an elegant form of protest against that treatment.
Instead of damaging her image, the incident actually garnered Fatima even more public sympathy. Many praised her calm demeanor and felt that she was able to handle the pressure with maturity, something that strengthened her position as a strong candidate in the finals.
As she entered the top two alongside Miss Thailand, the tension on stage rose sharply. Although the local finalist received significant support from the local audience, the judges' assessment indicated that Fatima excelled in terms of consistency and overall performance throughout the competition.
The tension melted away when the host announced that Mexico is the winner of Miss Universe 2025. Fatima then received the crown from Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig.
