Fight for the Fate of Musicians, Melly Goeslaw Shakes Up RDPU Baleg Urges Comprehensive Audit of LMKN

Senior musician and politician, Melly Goeslaw, once again shows her teeth in fighting for the rights of music artists in the homeland. The wife of musician Anto Hoed was present with a loud voice in the Public Hearing (RDPU) held by the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) together with the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN). This important meeting discussing the fate of royalties for song creators took place in Jakarta on Thursday (27/11/2025).

The presence of the singer of the song Gantung was not just as an ordinary participant, but as a proposer of regulatory changes that are considered urgent. The atmosphere of the meeting in the Parliament Building was quite dynamic when this 51-year-old woman began to present field facts. Melly highlighted various fundamental weaknesses that have occurred in the management of royalties managed by LMKN.

As a figure who has produced hundreds of legendary hits, the vocalist of the band Potret understands very well how the accountability of LMKN remains a big question mark for many songwriters. Melly expressed the concerns that her colleagues have felt for many years. According to her, songwriters are often faced with unclear information regarding the origins of the royalties they receive in their respective accounts.

This issue has become a chronic problem that makes artists feel they are not receiving the economic rights they deserve. In addition to the lack of clarity about the source of funding, Melly also mentioned the basis for calculating royalties, which is considered completely non-transparent. The absence of an audit mechanism that can be accessed openly by the creators is a crucial point that has been heavily criticized by this mother of two.

In her view, the closure of this information should not be allowed to persist as it concerns the livelihoods of many in the creative industry. Melly emphasized that improving the system is no longer an option, but a duty. She urged that the new regulations must have legal power that compels LMKN to be more transparent with the grantors, namely the song creators.

"The revision of the regulations must ensure that LMKN is required to open data, provide detailed explanations of royalty distribution, and prepare a transparent and modern digital system," asserted Melly Goeslaw in the meeting.

The sharp aspirations expressed by Melly have indeed sparked reactions from her colleagues in Senayan. Several members of the Baleg also questioned LMKN's performance, which is considered to have been less than optimal in serving artists. They firmly requested that the institution immediately provide a concrete improvement plan, not just sweet promises on paper.

The demand for improvement includes the implementation of a comprehensive independent audit of the institution's finances. In addition, board members also urged for the immediate update of digital infrastructure. This technical step is considered vital to minimize human error and close the gaps for potential misappropriation of funds for the musicians.

The Legislative Body of the Indonesian House of Representatives emphasizes that royalty management must be based on valid and accountable data. Transparency and accountability are the key elements to restore the trust of song creators, which has diminished due to governance that is considered less clean. This management cleanliness is expected to bring a breath of fresh air for the welfare of song creators in Indonesia in the future.

The RDPU forum was finally closed with a strong commitment from the legislative side to oversee this issue until it is resolved. All input from song creators, including the constructive criticism delivered by Melly Goeslaw, will be used as the main material in formulating recommendations. This step is expected to be the beginning of a comprehensive reform of royalty management in Indonesia towards a much better and fairer direction.
