Once Sentenced to Death, Steve Emmanuel Quietly Freed Thanks to Amnesty

Shocking news comes from senior actor, Steve Emmanuel. After serving a prison sentence for several years, this former lover of Andi Soraya has apparently been breathing free air since last August. His freedom was confirmed after he received amnesty.

This information was directly confirmed by the Subdirector of Cooperation at the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti. She explained that Steve's release is part of an amnesty program given to inmates who meet the requirements.

"Yes, the amnesty is not given only to Steve Emmanuel, but also to all inmates who meet the requirements to receive amnesty," she stated when met in Central Jakarta on Thursday (16/10/2025).

Rika emphasized that the correctional institution (lapas) only executes the decisions that have been made. As soon as the amnesty decree is received, they immediately carry out the execution of the release.

"Indeed, the amnesty decision is not ours, we are just executing it; there is an amnesty decision, so in the lapas, they also execute or implement the results of that amnesty decision," she added.

Steve's freedom certainly marks the end of a long and dramatic legal journey he faced. As known, Steve Emmanuel was arrested by the Narcotics Unit of the West Jakarta Metro Police at the end of 2018 in an apartment in the Mampang Prapatan area, South Jakarta.

During the arrest, police found very significant evidence, namely 92.04 grams of cocaine and its smoking equipment. The large amount of evidence made his case very serious.

Initially, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) charged Steve with the death penalty. This charge was based on the belief that Steve was not only a user but was also suspected of being involved in drug smuggling from abroad.

However, during the trial, the panel of judges had a different view. In July 2019, the judge sentenced Steve to 9 years in prison and a fine of IDR 1 billion. The judge considered Steve more as a victim of drug abuse rather than a dealer.

Now, after serving part of his sentence, Steve Emmanuel received an unexpected "gift" in the form of amnesty that reduced his remaining sentence. After going through a complicated legal process and being threatened with the maximum penalty, Steve can now start a new chapter in his life.
