Ibnu Jamil Supports England in the 2026 World Cup, Disappointed Harry Maguire is Not in the Squad

Actor and sports presenter Ibnu Jamil reaffirms his support for the England national team in the 2026 World Cup. While he continues to back The Three Lions, he has some notes regarding the squad composition chosen by coach Thomas Tuchel. According to Ibnu, England has always been his favorite team as long as the Indonesian national team has not participated in the World Cup finals.

"What World Cup do I support? I always support England every World Cup as long as Indonesia has not played. As long as Indonesia has not played, I support England," said Ibnu Jamil when met in the Epicentrum area, South Jakarta, recently.

Ibnu admitted to having two views on Tuchel's decision in forming the England squad. On one hand, he regretted the exclusion of several players who performed well throughout the season.

"Honestly, I have two sides to assess Tuchel's selection. First, I'm a bit disappointed because there are several players who performed well this season that he didn't bring," he said.

"For example, Harry Maguire. Like it or not, aside from the blunders and Maguire's struggles last season, he should have deserved a spot this season," he continued.

On the other hand, Ririn Ekawati's husband sees the possibility of a special strategy being prepared by Tuchel. He believes the German coach is deliberately giving opportunities to players who do not yet have big names.

"I'm quite curious whether what Tuchel means is not bringing players with good records or big names, but instead he chooses names that are not so big with mediocre clubs brought along. I suspect there is a mission he wants to convey," he said.

According to Ibnu, players who are still hungry for recognition usually have a greater motivation to prove their abilities at the international level. "Sometimes players who are thirsty for validation, hungry for recognition, with minimal playing time, will definitely show a greater thirst compared to players with big names who already have experience," he continued.

Despite having some doubts about the squad selection, Ibnu remains optimistic that England can make a significant impact in the 2026 World Cup. "England, at least to the quarter-finals, possibly the semi-finals. After that, we'll see their development and how prepared they are," he concluded.
