'JANUR IRENG', Expansion of the Horror Universe Sewu Dino with Tora Sudiro and a Lineup of Famous Stars

Kapanlagi.com - After the huge success of SEWU DINO with an audience tally of 4,863,533, MD Pictures is once again treating horror fans by announcing their latest project, JANUR IRENG. This film is part of the SEWU DINO universe, adapted from a novel by SimpleMan, featuring a new story that is darker and full of surprises.

At the cast reveal and celebration event held at MD Place, Kuningan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (26/2/2025), all the cast members and the creative team of this film were officially announced. Led once again by Kimo Stamboel as the director, this film presents renowned stars such as Rio Dewanto, Gisellma Firmansyah, Marthino Lio, and newcomer to this universe Tora Sudiro.

"We are very excited to continue the Sewu Dino universe through JANUR IRENG. With a more intense story, we want to provide a deeper horror experience for the audience," said Kimo Stamboel on this occasion.

Reflecting on the story told in the novel, fans speculate that Janur Ireng will be a more "bloody" film compared to its predecessor. The introduction of new characters and darker story elements is expected to bring a new dimension to the Sewu Dino universe.

1. Tora Sudiro Initially Hesitant

Actor Tora Sudiro was one of the people in the announcement. Known as a comedy actor, Tora admitted that he was initially hesitant to accept the offer to star in a horror film. However, after discussing it with his wife, Mieke Amalia, he decided to take on this role as a new challenge in his career.

"Suddenly one day I was offered to act in a film but it wasn't a comedy. I initially didn't want to act in a horror film. One, I'm a coward. Two, I can't handle shooting until morning," Tora recounted during an interview session.

2. Starring Famous Actors

However, encouragement from those close to him made him confident. "My manager said, 'This is good for you.' After I thought about it, I realized I had become too comfortable in comedy. Eventually, I shared with Mieke, and she said, 'Just go for it, it's good for you,'" Tora added.

One of the reasons Tora accepted the role in Janur Ireng was his admiration for Kimo Stamboel, known as a director specializing in tension-filled horror. This experience provided Tora with the opportunity to explore a new side of his acting abilities.

In addition to Tora, the film also features Rio Dewanto, Marthino Lio, and Gisellma Firmansyah, who previously appeared in Sewu Dino. Audiences are certainly looking forward to how their roles will continue in this new story. The presence of Masayu Anastasia, Ratu Rafa, and several other actors also adds color to this film.
