After being officially named a suspect in the case of smuggling the psychotropic substance etomedite from Malaysia, actor Jonathan Frizzy alias Ijonk faces serious charges. The police stated that Ijonk is charged under Articles 196 and 197 of the Health Law Number 36 of 2009.
The Head of Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Kombes Pol Ronald F.C Sipayung, stated that both articles relate to the distribution of drugs without a distribution permit and not meeting safety standards.
"The investigator charged Mr. JF under Articles 196 and 197 of the Health Law, for bringing, distributing, and importing pharmaceutical preparations that do not have a distribution permit and do not comply with the regulations," said Kombes Ronald at a press conference on Monday (5/5/2025).
Article 196 regulates a maximum criminal threat of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to Rp1 billion. Meanwhile, Article 197 carries a heavier criminal threat, namely a maximum of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp1.5 billion.
"This article has a maximum criminal threat of 15 years in prison," asserted Kombes Ronald when answering a reporter's question.
The alleged violation arose from the discovery of evidence in the form of etomedite, a type of sedative drug that falls under the category of psychotropics and does not have distribution permission in Indonesia. The police suspect Ijonk as the party managing the distribution of the goods from Malaysia.
"From the results of the examination of the digital evidence that we seized from the suspects, it appears that JF played an active role by creating a WhatsApp group as a means of communication for the distribution of this etomedite substance from Malaysia to Jakarta," he revealed.
The police also revealed that Jonathan was arrested in Bintaro, South Tangerang, on Sunday afternoon (5/4/2025). Currently, he has not been detained due to health reasons, but his suspect status has been established since May 3, 2025.
"Based on the results of the case examination, JF has been designated as a suspect. However, physically he is not able to engage in many activities, so we have not detained him yet," explained Kombes Ronald.
With the legal entanglement, Jonathan Frizzy's career future is now hanging by a thread. The investigation process is still ongoing, and the police emphasize that they will continue to dig for information and the involvement of other parties in the network.
