The concept of Junji Ito's Mystery House in Jakarta is designed to provide an unusual horror experience for visitors. Calvin Chandra, the Creative Project Lead from FanDayOut, explained that this concept features works by Junji Ito in two different paths, namely path A and path B. "As a fan of Junji Ito, I recommend both at once, because the stories in path A and B are different," said Calvin when met at Senayan Park on Thursday (23/10/2025).
According to Calvin, path A is intended for visitors who enjoy a creepy atmosphere with dark lighting and shocking effects, while path B is calmer for those who want to enjoy the exhibition without too many surprises. He also mentioned that each path features five short stories by Junji Ito, with additional talent playing characters from the original tales.
"In Indonesia, most ghosts are like pocong, but in Junji Ito's works, they can be said to not be ghosts, but more like phobias that make people shiver, not because of other creatures but because of something unpleasant to look at, yet unique," explained Calvin. He considers this concept as an opportunity for visitors to experience a different form of horror from what is common in Indonesia. With this approach, the organizers hope that visitors can enjoy the psychological tension typical of Junji Ito that is hard to find in other exhibitions.

Mystery House (Horror Experience)
On route A: Ville of Vengeance, visitors are invited to explore the story of Tomie, a mysterious girl who symbolizes both beauty and a curse. Each room on this route features visual illusions and recurring shadows that depict the dark side of human obsession with perfection. Meanwhile, route B: Ville of Evil offers a different experience by highlighting the character Souichi Tsujii, an eccentric figure known for having nails in his mouth. This route presents a chilling atmosphere filled with sinister laughter, voodoo dolls, and ritual spaces that evoke psychological terror.
Exhibition (Illustration Exhibition)
After exploring the attractions, visitors can continue to the Exhibition area that showcases original visual archives of works by Junji Ito, including the series Tomie, Souichi, and Uzumaki. The exhibition room is designed to resemble a labyrinth with sound effects, lighting, and interactive visuals to create the distinctive atmosphere of Junji Ito's world.
Exclusive Pop-Up Store
At the end of the visit, there is an Exclusive Pop-Up Store selling various official merchandise resulting from collaborations with Japan, including T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, tumblers, keychains, and premium collections themed around other original Junji Ito characters.
