Kapanlagi.com - Still remember some of the Collabonation works presented by IM3 Ooredoo? After last year's success with Collabonation CAMP involving top musicians from the country, this time Collabonation is back with a documentary that is worth watching.
This documentary series also serves as the finale of IM3 Ooredoo's independence campaign after releasing the video SATU SATU - Bersatu untuk Merdeka some time ago. The song is performed by Iwan Fals in collaboration with talented young musicians such as Hindia, Rendy Pandugo, and Petra Sihombing. Also included is the successful Collabonation Concert for Independence 'Bersatu untuk Merdeka'.
Collabonation Road to Unity - Bersatu untuk Bangkit first episode has been aired on YouTube IM3 Ooredoo. Visiting Solo city, there are many interesting things to watch. What's the excitement behind this Collabonation Road to Unity documentary series?
Exploring Solo city, Collabonation musicians Iga Massadri, Sal Priadi, Petra Sihombing, and Kunto Aji met with two local artists whose works have become international. These artists include Barata Sena, who has been working in the field of wood art for more than 20 years.
Another name encountered by Collabonation musicians in this first episode is Gondrong Gunarto, a musician and contemporary gamelan composer. Together with these interdisciplinary artists, Collabonation musicians have the opportunity to present a never-before-seen art performance.
Have you ever imagined if a woodcraft could transform into a musical instrument? The most realistic view is to make the craft as a percussive musical instrument. However, in the hands of these two great artists from Solo, the art works of Barata Sena can be transformed into dynamic musical instruments by composer Gondrong Gunarto.
"So this is indeed a challenge for me personally and my friends, to transform woodcraft which is not a musical instrument into a musical instrument. So I changed some of it into a cajon, there is also glass that will be rubbed with rubber sticks to find its vibrations and transform into a musical instrument like a violin," said Gondrong.
This collaboration also has high artistic value because many elements are involved. Gondrong Gunarto said that all these elements will become a unified whole.
"Previously, I tried to learn that wood itself actually has a sound, and we have to manipulate those sounds. We also tried to find the sounds of this wood from Barata first. So we prioritize the visual art form first before trying to find the sounds," added Gondrong.
It is no secret that this pandemic era has paralyzed all sectors. Including artists, musicians, and many other layers of society. The presence of Collabonation is a breath of fresh air for artists who are constantly thirsty for creation.
"Now I'm not too worried, because I'm too tired to feel that anxiety, and tired of lamenting the situation," said Collabonation musician Sal Priadi.
Not only Sal Priadi, another Collabonation musician, Iga Massardi, also believes that the limitations in this pandemic era are an opportunity to find new forms of creation.
"Now it's more about finding new forms from those limitations themselves," said Barasuara's frontman.
Collaboration in combining wood art with music has been a dream for Barata Sena. Even the idea of creating this performance has existed since before the pandemic.
"In 2017, I wanted to create a collaborative work in the form of visual art and music performance. So this is a collaboration that is not a patch, not a standalone artwork, not just music. But when the music is not played, this exhibition becomes a fine art. But once it is responded to, it will become a musical work," said Barata Sena's employee.
Collabonation Road to Unity - United to Rise, presented by IM3 Ooredoo, showcases the best art performances that have never been seen before. The combination of visual art blends perfectly with the musical instruments led by Gondrong Gunarto.
Interestingly, popular songs from Collabonation musicians are also performed, such as SULUNG by Kunto Aji, HAGIA by Barasuara, and BENGAWAN SOLO.
The values of enthusiasm and collaboration from Collabonation are in line with the consistency of IM3 Ooredoo, which continues to provide a spirit of optimism. This is also a reminder to everyone that we all need to rise and unite in the midst of this difficult situation.
“The Collabonation Road To Unity - Unite to Rise and the entire United for Independence campaign are expected to inspire and encourage its viewers, as well as the entire Indonesian society, to stay united, collaborate, and continue to create regardless of the circumstances,” said Fahroni Arifin, SVP - Head of Brand Management & Strategy at Indosat Ooredoo.
The documentary series Collabonation Road to Unity - Unite to Rise Solo Episode can already be watched on the IM3 Ooredoo YouTube channel. It contains a total of 4 episodes, so stay tuned for a new episode every week that will tell the collaboration across cities and generations of Indonesian musicians.
