The first hearing of the pre-trial lawsuit Dr. Richard Lee against the Metro Jaya Police has been held at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday (02/02/2026). However, Richard Lee was not present at the hearing and was only represented by his legal team.

Jefri Simatupang, as the lawyer, emphasized that his client's absence was not due to fear, but rather because, procedurally, he was sufficiently represented. He assured that the legal process would continue as it should, even without Richard Lee's physical presence.

"It has been represented. If it has been represented, there is no need to attend. There is no (fear), indeed if in the preliminary hearing the legal counsel is sufficient to represent," explained Jefri to the media.

This first hearing is scheduled for a formal and legal examination, such as checking the power of attorney and advocate card. Jefri also appreciates the presence of the Metro Jaya Police, which he believes respects his client's legal rights.

Although absent from the preliminary hearing, Jefri gave a positive signal regarding Richard Lee's attendance at the examination at the Metro Jaya Police scheduled for February 4. He mentioned that his client would be cooperative.

Previously, Richard Lee was named a suspect by the Metro Jaya Police on December 15, 2025, based on a report from Doktif. He is suspected of violating the Consumer Protection and Health Laws related to his beauty products that are considered to be overclaims. This pretrial is Richard Lee's effort to test the procedure of his suspect designation.

Richard Lee's absence seems to reinforce the circulating speculation that this pretrial is a strategy to delay the investigation. The Doktif party had previously suspected the legal maneuvers carried out by Richard Lee's camp.Nevertheless, Jefri Simatupang emphasized that the main focus of this pretrial is the procedural aspect.
