Learning about Keris and Acting with His Wife, Marthino Lio Shares His Experience in the Horror Film 'DOSA MUSYRIK'

"Yes (digging into the keris), I was shown, allowed to hold it, and taught how to hold it and the etiquette when drawing the keris from its sheath," he said when met in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, Thursday (31/10/2024).

Lio added that there is a special meaning behind the way the kris is drawn from its sheath, which he considers a valuable experience during filming. One of the reasons Lio accepted the offer to star in this film is the opportunity to act alongside his wife, Delia Husein.

This is the first film that brings them together since they officially married in 2021. “I wanted to because at that time I had the chance to work with my wife,” said Lio.

The film DOSA MUSYRIK is directed by Hadrah Daeng Ratu. Hadrah admitted that she did not have difficulty pairing Marthino and Delia as siblings in the film. "Thankfully, it wasn't (difficult). Even when seeing the results, they were quite consistent in maintaining the sibling relationship," explained Hadrah.

Hadrah also explained his reason for choosing Delia as the main character. According to him, Delia has a religious personality and is good at reciting the Quran, which he feels is suitable for the character she plays. "The reason I ultimately chose Delia is because I had previously worked with her, and personally, she is quite religious and good at reciting the Quran," he said.

The husband and wife relationship between Marthino and Delia does not interfere with their chemistry in playing as siblings; instead, it appears natural. "Even though they are husband and wife, here as siblings they look like real siblings," added Hadrah.

The film DOSA MUSYRIK follows the story of the character Nugie (played by Marthino Lio), a young man from a lower-class family who is burdened with debt to meet his family's needs and his mother's medical expenses. In a desperate situation, Nugie attempts to rob the home of a shaman named Mbah Narto, which ultimately leads to the theft of the shaman's sacred kris.

The dagger carries a curse that drags Nugie into a mystical terror. A ghostly figure named Nyi Lara Pati begins to haunt Nugie and his close ones, adding tension to the story with various terrifying experiences that occur.

In addition to Marthino Lio and Delia Husein, this film also stars other talented actors, including Pritt Timothy, Yati Surachman, and Annisa Hertami. The film DOSA MUSYRIK will premiere in theaters on October 31 and is expected to provide a different horror atmosphere with the backdrop of Indonesia's mystical culture and traditions.
