Letter of Jerinx SID's Deposit from Inside Detention, Contains 3 Lengthy Points Discussing His Case and the Covid-19 Pandemic

Recently, Jerinx entrusted a lengthy letter to his wife to be posted on social media. The letter contains 3 important points regarding his perspective on the case that has befallen him, as well as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

1. Negative Swab Test Result

In the first point, Jerinx explained that he underwent a Swab Test as directed by the police on August 13, 2020, and the result was negative. However, for several months prior, Jerinx had met with many people.

"This means I did not endanger anyone's life. It is important to note that since June 4, 2020, every day I have direct contact with hundreds, even thousands, of people related to providing free food for those in need at my business place, Twice Bar," Jerinx wrote in his letter.

Still on the first point, Jerinx then sent a message to the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) and also the Ministry of Health. "If I may give input, it would be better for IDI or the Ministry of Health to examine my condition to find a scientific explanation as to why I am not infected with COVID-19. I am willing to be a volunteer, both physically and mentally, so that the nation I love can quickly be free from excessive fear," he added.

2. Apply for Detention Suspension

It should be noted that Jerinx's current status has not been declared guilty. Not long ago, he and his lawyer applied for detention suspension, which unfortunately was rejected by the police. Jerinx discussed it in point 2.

"Point 2. As an Indonesian citizen, I have the right to apply for detention suspension and this is protected by the law. I applied for suspension not because I am weak, but because I see many irregularities and conflicts of interest in my case. Please note that I have not been declared guilty by the court, so let me fight in court and I will accept whatever decision the court makes with honor," wrote the man whose real name is I Gede Ari Astina.

3. Policy on Rapid and Swab Tests

In the final point, Jerinx discusses the policy on rapid and swab tests, which are quite expensive. According to him, the government has a very large budget for handling this COVID-19 situation.

"Point number 3. I kindly request my polite, intelligent, and well-connected friends not to remain silent in the face of the injustice suffered by the underprivileged people regarding the policy on rapid and swab tests. Our country has a budget of hundreds of trillions of rupiah for this pandemic, so there should no longer be any poor people who are required to pay for rapid and swab tests. And with such a large budget, there should be no more hungry people. Hunger is the main source of crime and death," he concluded.
