Like Being Slapped, Virgoun Tells His Experience of Witnessing the Struggle of Mecca Community's Worship Reclaiming Worship

Kapanlagi.com - Virgoun shared a story about his experience performing umrah, which coincided with the month of Ramadan in 2018. This moment certainly cannot be forgotten, especially when he saw the pilgrims struggling to perform their prayers.

When met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon (4/21), Virgoun witnessed the incident after performing the dawn prayer. At that time, he sat on a rock and watched people crowding to pray.

"Then, when it was time for the dawn prayer, people were fighting. I saw them wanting to pray in the middle of the road. They were chased away. It felt like a slap in the face," said Virgoun.

He felt the slap because he didn't expect that people had to struggle to pray in a holy place. Meanwhile, when he was at home and had the convenience of worship, some people ignored it.

"Here, we have a hard time being told to pray. But there, they pray until being chased away, 'can't pray here, you'll get stepped on'," he said.

2. Still Remembered

Virgoun still remembers that religious lesson until now, even though the musician who officially converted to Islam in 2014 has a teacher who is often visited for consultation. However, his religion doesn't completely change Virgoun's appearance, he only adjusts himself by wearing modest clothes that can be used for prayer.

"I am a skeptical person. Until now, I still like to come to the teacher's house to question the meaning of a verse that I can connect. Does it make sense with what is happening in the world today?" he explained.

"I don't really like to wear all-white robes. But still modest, like wearing long pants," he added.
