Deciding to Wear Hijab, Melly Goeslaw Couldn't Get a Job for 2 Years

Kapanlagi.com - Melly Goeslaw shares about the early days when she started wearing hijab. During her high point in her career, the decision to wear hijab made her have to take a break, even for 2 years. 

In a podcast with Soleh Solihun some time ago, during those 2 years, Melly admits that she didn't get any jobs, such as performing on TV or offline gigs. And during those 2 years, Melly and Anto Hoed relied solely on the money from the royalties of the songs she created. 

1. Wanting to Wear Hijab Since Childhood

Melly also revealed that her desire to wear hijab has existed since she was a child. As time went by and she grew older, Melly Goeslaw started to think about what she would give to God.

"Actually, I've wanted to wear hijab since a long time ago. Because I've been thinking about what I can do, and it seems like the only thing I can do is to wear hijab consistently," said Melly Goeslaw.

"Of course, I still have desires for sinful things, like looking at KPop boys. But I can't gossip, so I cover my aurat. It doesn't mean I have fully transformed, it's just about covering my aurat. That's what I can do to please Allah, by covering my aurat and praying," she continued.

2. Initially Hesitant

Previously, Melly admitted that she was initially hesitant about wearing hijab or not. Especially because she was working with Potret Band at that time, which involved activities related to nightclubs.

"Yes, at first, I was indecisive about whether to wear hijab or not. I was thinking about how it would be if I wore hijab. Considering my job, which often involved performing at clubs late at night," she explained.

3. Unable to Get a Job for 2 Years

What she feared finally happened. Since deciding to wear a hijab, both Potret and Melly Goeslaw themselves have not been able to find a job for 2 years.

"But it really happened when I finally decided to wear the hijab 6 years ago. Decided to wear the hijab, no job for 2 years," she said. 

"Potret and Melly, basically no job for 2 years. Fortunately, creating songs generates royalties," she continued. 

4. Can Make a Comeback

Nevertheless, Melly did not lose hope and continued to believe in her hijab. Eventually, not long after, she received an offer from Opick to join him in a charity event.

Although the income was not much, it was from there that Melly and Anto Hoed slowly started to get back on their feet.

"Thank God it's still being done, enjoying it and keep thinking that it's not that the jobs are gone, but they are chosen," she concluded.
