Ismi Melinda is very excited to wait for the premiere of her latest film MARNI : THE STORY OF WEWE GOMBEL which is planned to be simultaneously screened in cinemas throughout Indonesia on June 27, 2024. Ismi still remembers her struggle when portraying two characters in the film. Read the complete story!
Ismi portrays the character of Marni and Wewe Gombel in the film directed by Billy Christian. One of the challenges she faced was when she had to portray Wewe Gombel while performing actions wearing the Wewe Gombel costume.
"When I had to wear the Wewe Gombel costume, it was very heavy, around three to five kilograms, and I had to do fighting scenes," Ismi said in the Epicentrum area, South Jakarta, on Thursday (20/6/2024).
The 30-year-old woman indeed has a background in martial arts, specifically silat, which she has been trained in for a long time. However, in this film, Ismi is required to perform fighting scenes as the character Marni.
"Here, I have to eliminate the silat itself, so what is taken is self-defense action," Ismi said.
"So how does Marni still look like she's not a martial arts expert, she really has to be completely different from me as Ismi and Marni," Ismi continued.
In addition, in Marni's character, Ismi admitted that she also faced challenges that she had never experienced before while acting. That was during the scene of a rape committed by four men.
Before shooting, Ismi first had a discussion with Billy as the director. Of course, being a woman born in Bandung, West Java, she didn't know how to act in such scenes. "What should I do, and how should the shots be taken so that it's safe for me and the other actors," Ismi explained.
MARNI: THE STORY OF WEWE GOMBEL tells the story of the Rahayu family, Anisa, and Aan who are disturbed by the presence of Wewe Gombel. However, Wewe Gombel is the spirit of Marni, a woman who died because of her vigilante actions.
In the film, Wewe Gombel is depicted as having a clear reason why she threatens and terrorizes people by kidnapping abandoned children.
