Maudy Ayunda Collaborates on Research with ITB School of Pharmacy, Recently Files Joint Patent

The main focus of this collaboration is the development of a more in-depth research and development program for local extracts. The goal is none other than to enhance the quality and benefits of the materials used in skincare product formulations.

As part of her visit to ITB, Maudy Ayunda was also taken on a tour of the campus and visited several laboratories in the School of Pharmacy. She reviewed the Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Bioprocess Laboratory, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Instrumentation, as well as Medicinal Chemistry, where students conduct practical work.

Not only that, Maudy Ayunda also delivered a guest lecture on the topic "Challenges in Natural Ingredient Development for Cosmetic Application." In that session, she discussed various challenges faced in developing cosmetic products using safe and effective natural ingredients.

2. Joint Patent from Nyamplung Plant

The peak of this research collaboration was seen on July 7, 2026, when Maudy Ayunda together with the Faculty of Pharmacy at ITB officially submitted a joint patent. The patent was filed for an innovation in cosmetic products derived from the nyamplung or tamanu plant.

This research collaboration, which has been ongoing since 2023, involves various complex technical stages. The Director of Research and Innovation (DRI) at ITB, Prof. Dr. apt. Elfahmi, explained that the process includes standardization of raw materials, extraction methods, and purification of tamanu polyphenols. The research team also utilized calophyllolide as the main active ingredient in the formulation of the beauty product.

The success of this patent application serves as concrete evidence that research conducted within the campus environment has economic value and direct benefits for the industry. This demonstrates that innovations from higher education institutions can make significant contributions when managed through the appropriate development stages.

3. Maudy Ayunda's Journey: From Education to Business

Ayunda Faza Maudya, or more commonly known as Maudy Ayunda, is a figure recognized as an actress, singer-songwriter, activist, model, entrepreneur, and writer of Indonesian nationality. Born in Jakarta on December 19, 1994, she is the eldest daughter of Didit Jasmedi R.Irawan and Muren Murdjoko, and has a younger sister named Amanda Khairunnisa. In May 2022, Maudy Ayunda married Jesse Jiseok Choi, a Korean-American businessman whom she met while pursuing her master's degree at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Maudy's interest in books and education was evident from an early age, as she was able to read by the age of three. After completing her primary education at Al-Azhar Elementary School and Mentari Intercultural School, she continued her high school education at British School Jakarta, where she even served as the student council president. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Oxford, England, majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) and graduated in 2016 with a degree equivalent to Magna Cum Laude. In 2019, Maudy was accepted into two prestigious universities, Harvard and Stanford, and chose Stanford for her master's degree, graduating in 2021 with dual degrees in Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Education (M.A.).
