Mother Raisa's Struggle Against Cancer, Improved for a While but Suddenly Deteriorated

4. Back to Shortness of Breath

After the PET Scan results looked good, suddenly Mother Ria felt short of breath. "A few days after that, Mother started feeling short of breath (she indeed has asthma), then on September 18 we took her for the 12th Immunotherapy while she was experiencing shortness of breath. The blood results showed many things that needed correction, the doctor suggested hospitalization. After 5 days with no improvement, on September 22 Mother was admitted to the HCU," wrote Rinaldi about his mother's condition.

5. Put on a Ventilator

In addition to being admitted to the HCU (High Care Unit), Mother Ria was also put on a ventilator to assist her breathing. "For 3 days, her shortness of breath worsened, anxiety exacerbated, on September 24 the doctor decided to put her on a ventilator to assist her breathing," wrote Rinaldi.

6. Undergo Surgery

After being in the ICU and having a ventilator installed, it was finally discovered that there was a problem in the respiratory tract that required surgery. "After that, a bronchoscopy was performed, and it was found that the airway was almost blocked by active cancer cells. The doctor immediately performed cryosurgery, and the patient was transferred to Dharmais Hospital on September 25. Alhamdulillah, it was successful, and the airway was cleared."

Bronchoscopy is a medical procedure that uses a flexible instrument called a bronchoscope (a thin tube with a camera at the end) to visually examine the airways and lungs. Cryosurgery is a medical procedure that uses extreme cold temperatures (usually liquid nitrogen gas or argon gas) to freeze and destroy abnormal cells or diseased tissue, such as cancer cells, warts, or precancerous lesions. This procedure can be performed on tissue outside the body or inside the body using a thin tube called a cryoprobe.

7. Still Have to Undergo Radiotherapy

However, the struggle is not over. After the surgery, Mother Ria must undergo radiotherapy to recover.

"Mother still has to undergo Radiotherapy so that it doesn't grow back. Radiotherapy started on September 27. The ventilator tube cannot be removed yet because there is still a lot of slime that cannot be cleared."
