Paula Verhoeven Absent at Divorce Hearing with Baim Wong, Legal Counsel: There is Still a Chance for Peace

Paula Verhoeven once again did not attend her divorce hearing with Baim Wong at the South Jakarta Religious Court. Paula's attorney, Alvon Kurnia Palma, stated that Paula's absence this time was due to her commitments that could not be left behind and after careful consideration and prayer.

"Today, Sister Paula cannot attend because she is busy and she has also prayed for guidance. That is what I can convey at this time, and please pray for us moving forward. She will prove herself in court later," said Alvon after the hearing on Monday (28/10/2024)

Although the mediation process failed, Alvon invites the public to pray for the best for Paula and Baim. He also hopes that the trial proceeds peacefully without pressure from any party.

"Therefore, at this time we ask for prayers from everyone and hope for the best for both parties," Alvon continued.

Regarding the mediation process, Alvon emphasized that the details of the discussions in the mediation room are the rights of the mediator and the parties involved, not for public announcement. He stressed that as legal counsel, his side prioritizes ethics in maintaining the confidentiality of the mediation process.

"The actual mediation process is something that only the parties and the mediator have the right to know. So it's not that we want to hide anything, but this is about manners and ethics as legal counsel," he explained.

When asked about Paula's apparent determination to divorce, Alvon suggested waiting for the next court session. According to him, the decision to divorce is something that requires time and a firm heart.

"As for whether she is determined or not, let it be proven during the court session later. Because it is more about a person's firm heart which sometimes needs time," he added.

Although the court process has started, Alvon stated that the opportunity for reconciliation is still wide open. He indicated that at every stage of the trial, there is always a chance for mediation or a peaceful resolution for both parties.

"Each stage opens up the possibility for mediation or reconciliation. So it is not impossible that this will happen later," he said.
