Paula Verhoeven's Legal Team Reveals Allegations of Domestic Violence and Discrimination, Komnas Perempuan Receives Two Reports

Paula Verhoeven's legal team finally speaks out about their visit to Komnas Perempuan on Wednesday (30/4/2025), at Jalan Latuharhary, Central Jakarta. Paula, who was present, chose to remain silent and only indicated experiencing throat discomfort. She was accompanied by three legal representatives, Alvon Kurnia Palma, Siti Aminah, and Ainul Yaqin.

Alvon explained that the purpose of this visit was to ensure that women's rights can be guaranteed by the state, especially in the context of allegations of discrimination and violence against his client, Paula. "Because we see that there are many things that have, at least, allegations of discrimination against women," he said. Here are the details.

Siti Aminah added that during the meeting they submitted two important reports to the National Commission on Violence Against Women. "One report concerns allegations of domestic violence allegedly committed by her husband or currently by Mr. Baim. The other complaint relates to discriminatory statements made by public officials," Siti emphasized.

The reports submitted include allegations of physical, psychological, sexual, and economic violence. "The National Commission on Violence Against Women, represented by three commissioners, has received complaints of gender-based violence... experienced by Mrs. Paula as a wife," Siti Aminah explained.

The evidence they presented included CCTV footage and analysis from a digital forensics expert. "We have also submitted evidence in the form of CCTV footage and statements from a digital forensics expert who assessed the CCTV footage showing physical violence," she continued.

Not only that, Paula's legal team also questioned the statement from the spokesperson of the South Jakarta Religious Court, which was considered not neutral. “Objectivity is about conveying what exists... But in that statement... it means that it is a personal opinion,” said Siti.

Ainul Yaqin added that several facts in the trial were not fully disclosed by the spokesperson. “One example, in the domestic violence evidence, we have already conveyed regarding the CCTV... But that was not mentioned,” he revealed.

Siti also regretted that Baim's admission of kissing another woman while still married was never made public by the court. “In civil law, that admission is a perfect proof,” she stated.

The National Commission on Violence Against Women welcomes the report and expresses its support. “The National Commission on Violence Against Women welcomed and supported the courage of Mrs. Paula and supported her in obtaining her rights to justice and recovery,” concluded Siti.
