Kapanlagi.com - The release of the film VINA: SEBELUM 7 HARI reopens the case of Vina Arsita alias Vina Cirebon's death in 2016. As known from the eleven perpetrators, eight have served prison sentences while three remain fugitives.
With the reopening of this case, a young man named Pegi Setiawan was captured. However, Pegi, who works as a construction worker, denies being the murderer of Vina.
"I never committed that murder. This is slander. I'm willing to die," said Pegi in a press conference held at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters on Sunday (26/5/2024).
Although Pegi Setiawan has been identified as the mastermind behind the murder of Vina Arsita by the police, lawyer Sugianti Irani feels that something is amiss. With all the evidence, she filed a pretrial lawsuit against the suspect status imposed on Pegi.
On Monday (8/7/2024), the Bandung District Court declared that Pegi is free from the suspect accusations. According to Judge Eman Sulaeman, the cancellation of the status is due to non-compliance with procedures and is invalid according to applicable law.
Anggy Umbara, the director of VINA: BEFORE 7 DAYS, expressed gratitude after Pegi Setiawan was released from the suspect accusations. Now, he hopes that the police will find the real perpetrator.
"Alhamdulillah, he is released and can resume his life outside of prison. Hopefully, the real perpetrator will be caught soon," said Anggy when contacted via WhatsApp message on Monday (8/7/2024).
"For those who are innocent, they should be freed. We shouldn't punish innocent people like that. So justice really needs to be upheld properly and correctly," he added.
